Steve McKichan
Former NHL goaltender, Steve McKichan, BS.Ed, has been turning goalies into Future Pros for nearly two decades. His program has become the most popular, full-time, personally delivered program in North America. Future Pro is the ONLY program available with the unique combination of credentials, commitment, quality and proven results. Steve has worked as Ed Belfour's Goaltending Coach and as the Goaltending Coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2004 - 2008.
Mitch Korn
Mitch Korn is in his 12th season as the goaltending coach for the Nashville Predators and in his 19th season in the NHL. He works with all netminders in the Nashville system, including those playing in Milwaukee (AHL), amateur leagues and Europe. Korn has helped Nashville goaltenders burst onto the NHL scene in each of the last two seasons. In 2008-09, Nashville netminder Dan Ellis develop into a No. 1 goalie after playing in just one NHL game prior to the 2007-08 season. Ellis led the NHL in save percentage (.924) and tied for third in the NHL in shutouts (6). Last season it was Pekka Rinne’s turn as he took over the No. 1 goalie position after appearing in just three NHL contests prior to 2008-09. Rinne finished in the League’s Top 10 in goals against average (2.38), save percentage (.917) and shutouts (7), establishing a franchise record. Korn has also helped former Predator goaltenders Tomas Vokoun and Chris Mason develop into top NHL goaltenders. Prior to joining the Predators on July 23, 1998, Korn spent seven seasons coaching the netminders in the Buffalo Sabres organization, where he enjoyed great success while working with two-time Hart Trophy-winner Dominik Hasek. Under Korn’s tutelage, Hasek captured four Vezina Trophies and led the NHL with the best save percentage five times. Korn also saw Buffalo’s goaltending tandem (Hasek and Hall-of-Famer Grant Fuhr) capture the NHL’s Jennings Trophy (lowest team goals-against average) during the 1994-95 season. Besides Hasek and Fuhr, Korn also coached Olaf Kolzig and Martin Biron. The New York City native recently retired from Miami University’s Goggin Ice Center in Oxford, Ohio where he worked in a variety of capacities for 30 years. Korn, who runs goaltending and defensemen schools around the country in the off-season, also contributes regularly to several hockey publications including USA Hockey Magazine and Goalies’ World. Korn began his college hockey career at Kent State University in the late 1970s and started his coaching career at KSU in 1979. He continued coaching the goaltenders at Miami University until joining the Sabres in 1991. Korn has more than 34 years of coaching experience. Mike Valley
Mike currently serves as the goaltending coach for the Dallas Stars (NHL). During the 2008/2009 season he served as a goaltending coach within the Nashville Predators organization as well as for the Wisconsin Badgers (NCAA) during the 2008/2009 season. Mike Valley has successfully developed and works with goaltenders at all ages. He works with dozens of goalies currently playing in the NHL, AHL, ECHL, NCAA, US National Program. As a goaltender Mike played his Junior A hockey for the Chilliwack Chiefs in the BCHL. He then spent two seasons at the University of Wisconsin before signing a free-agent contract with the Vancouver Canucks. Mike enjoyed the hands-on benefits of working with some of the top goalie coaches in the game during his six years of pro hockey. His playing days were split between the NHL, AHL, ECHL, and the Swedish Elite League. Dave Wells
Dave holds a B.A. from Brock University where he served a term as Class President. Dave has been teaching goalies for 14 years and has built a client base the old fashioned way: by word of mouth referrals. “The best business is built from happy, loyal people who are pleased to pass your name to others seeking professional instruction.” Over the years Dave has been the goalie coach with Ryerson University (CIS), Pickering Panthers (OPJHL Jr. A), the Toronto Moose (GMHL Jr. A) and with dozens of AAA, AA and A teams around the GTHL and the OMHA. He has mentored under Steve McKichan, former goalie coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, along with several other lesser known but equally bright goalie minds. “Every goalie coach I have worked with over the years has taught me something I can pass along to my students.” Dave has developed an extensive network of contacts in the scouting and coaching fraternity at all levels of play. He is regularly contacted by teams to recommend goalies that he trains and he will proactively try to place qualified goalies on quality teams. His expert knowledge of goaltending has led to many teams using him in their goalie scouting, assessment and recruiting efforts. Greg Gries
Greg has been a long time friend and is an exceptional goaltending coach! He has deep insight into the position at all levels and has high level coaching certification in USA hockey ( USAH CEP# 154480). He continues to develop goaltenders for the Delaware Stars and Harrington Havoc hockey organizations. He had the opportunity to play collegiately at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire. (Formerly known as New Hampshire College) Greg was one of the first guys I contacted to be involved with Future Pro Live because of passion for teaching the sport and his great resume!
Robert Roth
Robert Roth aka 'Sloth', has been an acquaintance of mine for over a decade. He has a sharp wit and tells it as it is. You will never wonder what he thinks, he speaks his mind and backs it up with logical technical advice. That trait and his outstanding goaltending knowledge make him a valuable resource for us here. He played goal at an elite college level and critically analyzes new approaches in the game better than anyone I know. Robert is well known as one of the top goaltending coaches on the east coast and in many respects I have learned a ton from his writings.
Jerett Rooney
Jerett Rooney had a successful junior career in both ice and roller hockey. He is well known in the retail goaltending community and is a savant when it comes to goalie gear. You can trust him with great, unbiased gear recommendations, equipment care and he knows roller inside and out"
Ryan Hull
Currently in his seventh year of training goaltenders exclusively and his 10th year of coaching overall, Ryan Hull had the benefit and honor of working and learning next to NHL goalies and NHL goalie coaches early on. This combined with countless hours studying the position off the ice and through the eyes of many prominent, established goalie coaches, Ryan developed a personalized view of playing and teaching the position of goaltender; but of all the work he’s studied, Ryan cites Steve McKichan as being the greatest influence on his coaching. Located in southwestern Connecticut, Ryan has the privilege of privately instructing over 100 goalies of all ages year-round at one of the most unique ice facilities anywhere, and coaches an additional 100-plus goalies through team practices and summer camp settings. As a player, Ryan gained experience at the semi- professional, collegiate, and junior levels. Ryan also has a background in journalism, and looks forward to merging his coaching and writing in the future. |
